Installation
To use the VPN you need to have your 2-factor authentification enabled.
The university uses the forcepoint client. It works for Windows, Mac and Linux systems, so you should be able to install it without much problems.
For German speakers I recommend to just check out this link https://www.uni-due.de/zim/services/internetzugang/vpn.php and follow the explanations there. Unfortunately the english version of this website is not up to date and uses openconnect which does not work anymore.
Linux
To download forcepoint follow this link https://www.uni-due.de/imperia/md/content/zim/services/internetzugang/vpn_download/forcepointvpnclientlinux252.zip and enter your university credentials. Unzip the downloaded archive and execute one of the files depending on your operating system:
- forcepoint-client-2.5.2.el8.x86_64.rpm for CentOS 8 or RedHat 8
- forcepoint-client_2.5.2+bullseye_amd64.deb for Debian 11 or Ubuntu 20.04
- forcepoint-client_2.5.2+buster_amd64.deb for Debian 10 or Ubuntu 18.04
- forcepoint-client_2.5.2+jammy_amd64.deb for Ubuntu 22.04
MacOS
Download the client with this link and your university credentials: https://www.uni-due.de/imperia/md/content/zim/services/internetzugang/vpn_download/vpnclient-2.0.6.200429.dmg Confirm the opening of the app and accept the license agreement. Now you can add a new connection at the bottom left of the client. Fill in the following information:
- Host: vpn.uni-due.de

- Press confirm
- Subject Name: C=DE, ST=Nordrhein-Westfalen, O=Universit\C3\A4t Duisburg-Essen, CN=vpn.uni-due.de
