What to do when you're sick

Since summer 2026 the official notification that you are sick has to be done using the selfcare portal instead of e-mail. Once logged in using your 2FA you click on Personnel Management / Personal → Notification of Illness / Krank-/Gesundmeldung in the side panel. From there it's straightforward. There is an English handout explaining the whole process that you received via e-mail from Stefanie on the 30.06.2026. The German handout can be found here. When you get sick during work and leave this is not affected by the change. In that case just tell Rolf. The procedure for staying at home with a sick child is also unchanged.

Get around, get around, I get around

The university is divided into two campuses, one in Duisburg and one in Essen. For most of the time you should be fine to just stay in Duisburg, but some of the teaching duties are in Essen. You can either take public transport to get there or there is a shuttle bus leaving once an hour. Please note that the stops currently change due to construction works, that the heating might not work and that the bus takes the motorway and tends to get stuck in traffic. The safer although longer route is the public transport. The DVG app is best for that.
